A HEATLEY cafe has been attacked by vandals for the second time this year.

Sami’s Place on Fulham Rd had rocks thrown through the front window yesterday about 5.45am, with the culprit also setting off a fire extinguisher.

Owner Sam Kingsley said nothing had been taken, but the clean- up would take a while.

“They didn’t even take the tip jar,” she said.

“They didn’t take anything except the fire extinguisher ... they’ve thrown it up on a roof over the road.

“Everything has to be cleaned ... the fire extinguisher has made a huge mess.

“Half our stuff has to be thrown out because of the chemicals.”

Ms Kingsley said it was the fifth time they had been hit by crime since opening threeand- a- half years ago and it was disheartening.

“The justice system just sucks,” she said.

“These people have got to realise they will put small businesses out of work.

“It pushes you to the point where you think you may as well just shut up shop and go.”

Ms Kingsley said they would feel an immediate effect because of the attack.

“Sunday’s one of our best days,” she said. “With all these penalty rates, we can’t afford to bring staff in to help us clean up.

“There will be no takings for the day. Hopefully we’ll get that back from insurance but that might take weeks.”

Acting Inspector Graeme Paine said police had conducted a scientific investigation and CCTV footage was available.

“We’re looking for a tall male wearing a hoodie, shorts, no shoes, last seen towards Narangi St,” he said.

“Police are following up information about persons seen in the area at the time and request that anyone with information or dash cam footage provide it to Kirwan Police or Crime Stoppers.”
