Fatal crash clues hunt
POLICE are working to piece together the movements of a utility before it crashed into a tree at a Tablelands national park, leaving two men dead and another in hospital.
A 28- year- old Mareeba man and 21- year- old man from Kuranda were both pronounced dead when officers arrived at the scene on Davies Creek Rd yesterday morning, just near the popular campground.
Officers are still yet to identify which of the men was driving the white 1988 model Toyota LandCruiser when it hit a tree on the gravel road about 5km off the Kennedy Highway.
Cairns Forensic Crash Unit Sgt Scott Ezard said the third man, a 22- year- old from Kuranda, was in a stable condition in Cairns Hospital.
He said he was assisting police.
“We are trying to establish who the driver was at the time,” he said.
Police said they were considering whether alcohol may have played a factor in the horror crash.
“The reason why they were in the area remains unknown,” he said.
