Future on display as little stars hit pitch
ACTION is under way at the Filippo Mele Memorial Carnival, and not even the weekend’s gloomy weather could put a dampener on all the fun.
More than 450 players from across North Queensland have descended on Brolga Park for the annual junior football spectacular, which features both boys and girls divisions from under- 9s to under- 13/ 14.
Proceedings were launched with an official opening ceremony on Saturday and first games kicked off soon after, with the action continuing today and running through until Wednesday.
Townsville is represented in all age groups, and teams from regions including Cairns, Johnstone River, Mackay and the Burdekin are also taking part.
A four- team competition run by the Townsville Multicultural Support Group is being held in conjunction with the five- day junior carnival.
Play resumes this morning at Brolga Park from 8am.
