Bor­der Force boss in sex link probe

A SEX scan­dal has en­gulfed the mar­ried boss of the Aus­tralian Bor­der Force, Ro­man Quaed­vlieg, amid al­le­ga­tions his young lover may have been ques­tion­ably pro­moted.

The high- pro­file Com­mis­sioner, who has been on leave from his $ 700,000 job since Se­nate es­ti­mates ear­lier this year, is fac­ing a re­view into a num­ber of al­le­ga­tions.

It is un­der­stood the claims cen­tre on Mr Quaed­vlieg, 52, be­ing in­volved with a Syd­ney­based staff mem­ber aged 22 years or younger.

It is al­leged the woman may have been pro­moted dur­ing their al­leged af­fair.

Act­ing Im­mi­gra­tion and Bor­der Protection Min­is­ter Michael Keenan said yes­ter­day, “The ABF Com­mis­sioner is on leave.

“A mat­ter is un­der con­sid­er­a­tion by ap­pro­pri­ate au­thor­i­ties.

“There will be no fur­ther com­ment un­til that process is com­plete.”

Mr Quaed­vlieg is a dec­o­rated for­mer Aus­tralian Fed­eral Po­lice of­fi­cer who has also worked for the Queens­land Po­lice Ser­vice.

Within the Turn­bull Gov­ern­ment and po­lice ser­vices, he is viewed as tal­ented, highly am­bi­tious and po­lit­i­cally con­nected.

It was tipped he was in the run­ning for the NSW P o l i c e Co m m i s - si o n e r ’ s job this year.
