Brownsville mentality rules

Townsville Bulletin - - OPINION -

BROWNSVILLE water again and who is to blame, the TCC, as it wouldn’t have been the case under previous councils.

The recent announcements of $ 225 million funding by State Labor and the LNP would take years to put water into our city supply. Endless feasibility studies, objections from various groups – then it rains. All will be forgotten as the money would now buy more votes elsewhere.

I can only liken these announcements to European Economic Union policies, where if you produced pigs you could get paid to not produce pigs, then if you bought the equivalent amount of land, you could get paid twice as much not to produce pigs. The parallel is we have one pipeline not pumping water and the plan seems to be to have two pipelines not pumping water ( too expensive to pump).

TCC is mentally bankrupt in economics and devoid of morals. The money spent on advertising Townsville is being neutralised by the TCC bloody mindedness in refusing to supply the citizens of Townsville with adequate water.

The result of their pathetic economic decisions is being borne by all sectors, but especially those small businesses reliant on supplying gardening supplies, lawn mowing businesses, gardeners etc. Visitors leave with the negative views of yesteryear and alluding to it as Brownsville once again.

The concern is now, solve it now, pump the water, bring the original Burdekin Dam plans to fruition, gravity feed the water. The pumping of water will always be costly. M. G. ANNING,

North Ward.
