POR­TION sizes of food laden in fat, sugar and salt have bal­looned since 1995.

Slices of cake and pizza have a whop­ping 66 per cent more kilo­joules, shock­ing re­searchers and spark­ing calls for an ur­gent scal­ing down of serves to curb the na­tion’s obe­sity epi­demic.

Re­search out to­day by The Ge­orge In­sti­tute for Global Health re­veals that be­tween 1995 and 2012 Aus­tralians con­sumed ever- grow­ing por­tions of un­healthy foods. While pizza and cake were the worst of­fend­ers, a typ­i­cal por­tion of sausage, ce­real bar, pro­cessed meat, ice cream and wine also in­creased.
