Mental health boss elevated
TOWNSVILLE Hospital and Health Service medical director of mental health Dr John Reilly has been appointed Queensland’s chief psychiatrist.
Dr Reilly will depart Townsville to take on the new role, which will involve overseeing mental health services delivered across the state in line with the Mental Health Act 2016.
Dr Reilly said he was proud of how far the local health service had developed during his eight years in Townsville and he was leaving the mental health service group in a strong position.
“It has been a privilege working with the team for the past eight years and we’ve made some real progress and seen some remarkable improvement,” he said.
“It’ll be sad farewelling everyone but it is a good strong team that has built some momentum and I’ve got no doubt that will continue after I’m gone.”
