Man charged over stab­bing

AN Ing­ham man has been re­manded in cus­tody af­ter he al­legedly stabbed an­other man in the back early yes­ter­day morn­ing.

An­thony Catchinda, 53, was charged with one count of griev­ous bodily harm af­ter he al­legedly stabbed a 35- year- old man in the back at a Cartwright St res­i­dence in Ing­ham.

Po­lice were called to the home about 1.30am yes­ter­day.

The vic­tim was taken to Ing­ham Hos­pi­tal in a se­ri­ous con­di­tion be­fore be­ing flown to Townsville Hos­pi­tal with a punc­tured lung.

Ing­ham po­lice of­fi­cer- in­charge Act­ing Se­nior Sergeant Don Auld de­scribed the in­ci­dent as “al­co­hol- fu­elled vi­o­lence”.

“I don’t know the ex­act weapon but it would have to be a knife,” he said.

Both men were known to each other.

Catchinda is ex­pected to ap­pear in the Townsville Mag­is­trate Court this morn­ing.
