Art events bring city to the world

-

A TRIO of art festivals are set to get Townsville buzzing next month.

From July 28, the city will come alive with the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, biennial outdoor sculpture festival Strand Ephemera and a new festival of pop- up exhibitions and shops.

AFCM executive director Justin Ankus said the city would look and sound incredible during the festival period, with artists from all over the world converging on Townsville.

“As most of Australia shivers through a cold winter, the AFCM together with Strand Ephemera and Pop Up North Queensland will shine the light firmly on Townsville as one of the most spectacular locations anywhere in the world,” he said.

Every two years, the AFCM and Strand Ephemera coincide, with Pop Up North Queensland a new addition filling the CBD with exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, classic film screenings and shops.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the three events combined would make for a stunning events program.

“Townsville prides itself on hosting world- class events,” she said.

“The music, the art and the engaging programs associated with these three events with the backdrop of Townsville at this time of year, is just unbeatable.”

The events will run from July 28 until August 6.
