Geitz to soar again with Firebirds

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - GREG DAVIS

SHE’S back. And Laura Geitz means business.

The netball legend will return to the Queensland Firebirds for the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season after missing the 2017 campaign following the birth of her son Barney in February.

It is no casual farewell lap either.

The 29- year- old wants to recapture – and surpass – the form that saw the goalkeeper lead the Firebirds to three transTasman titles and the Australian Diamonds to Commonwealth Games and World Cup glory.

Geitz said she would be “having a red- hot crack’’.

“It’s about coming back and striving to be the player I was, if not better, in all aspects of my game,’’ Geitz said.

“That’s the challenge. I love challenges and I want to be better than what I was.

“I’m 29. That’s not old … I’m not done.’’

Geitz has been training hard away from netball and said she deeply missed the team environment as well as donning her beloved Firebirds purple.

Geitz has achieved everything there is to achieve in the sport and she returns with no fear of failure and no concerns that her golden girl image could be dented. “That’s sport and there’s risks with everything,’’ she said.
