JUST a hug is all five- year- old Liam Chapman wanted from his hero Craig Lowndes at the Townsville 400 yesterday.

Liam’s mother Sonya said he didn’t want an autograph, just a cuddle.

“We come every year, and he never wants an autograph. Lowndes is his one and only,” she said.

Liam said he always got lots of cuddles from Lowndes and that he was looking forward to returning throughout the event. “I’ll have more cuddles in the morning,” he said. Liam was quick to meet his favourites, and had already visited Betty Klimenko, owner of Erebus Motorsport, who invited him to watch TV in her transporter today.

Liam and his mum, Sonya Chapman, travel every year from Mareeba.

Sonya’s husband and daughter volunteer at the event which sees them stay in Townsville for all three days.

“They work and then they get to come in and have a look around. It works well,” Sonya said.

Liam and Sonya are cheering for Lowndes to win this year.
