The six- time Su­per­cars cham­pion broke through to win his first race of the year and equal Craig Lown­des’ all- time win­ning record. Whin­cup’s win was the 105th of his ca­reer, bring­ing him level with Triple Eight Rac­ing team­mate Lown­des for the most vic­to­ries in the cat­e­gory’s his­tory.

It was also Whin­cup’s ninth race win on the Townsville street cir­cuit, eas­ily the most by any driver in the event’s nine- year his­tory. The Townsville 400’ s to­tal crowd fig­ure was 142,478 for the three- days, slightly down on last year’s fig­ure.
