Call to boycott fuel rip- offs
MAJOR fuel retailers have been criticised for not dropping petrol prices in Cairns more than a month after the national consumer watchdog’s report found they were ripping off motorists at the bowser.
The state’s leading motoring body RACQ has called on motorists to “vote with their wheels” to drive down prices.
RACQ spokeswoman Renee Smith said it was disappointing there had been little price movement since the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission report, released in May, found since 2012- 13 prices in Cairns have been about 11c a litre higher than in the country’s five largest cities.
City petrol stations have been making 38 per cent more profit on fuel sales than the national average. Herbert MP Cathy O’Toole has previously called for an ACCC investigation into Townsville fuel prices.
