Call for ACCC to probe
OP P O S I T I O N tr e a s u r y spokesman Scott Emerson has written to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission requesting that the watchdog investigate allegations of price gouging by stateowned electricity generators.
It comes after Federal Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg accused the Labor State Government of increasing electricity prices to boost revenue.
Queensland Energy Minister Mark Bailey has denied the allegations, claiming the attacks were “purely political”.
In his letter to ACCC chair Rod Simms, Mr Emerson said there was significant concern that government- owned electricity generators CS Energy and Stanwell had been using their market power to increase wholesale prices.
