Man faces two child sex counts
A MAN visiting family in Townsville allegedly touched his 13- year- old great- nephew indecently after giving him a PlayStation.
The man pleaded not guilty in Townsville District Court yesterday to two counts of indecent treatment of a child and is facing trial.
Crown prosecutor Jodie Crane said the Queensland man was visiting his niece and her family in Townsville from March 1, 2015.
“He was very generous with them, he bought all of the children gifts when he arrived,” she said.
“On the first weekend that he was there, the defendant also bought ( the complainant and his brother) a PlayStation and television, which was set up in ( the complainant’s) room.”
Ms Crane said on Sunday, March 8, the boy and his great- uncle were “play- fighting” in the kitchen for two minutes. She said the man allegedly touched the boy’s genital area twice.
“( The boy) says that after the defendant touched him on the penis, ( he) said ‘ you’re a feeler’ and ( his great- uncle) responded ‘ yeah, I know’,” she said.
Ms Crane said the next afternoon, the boy was lying on his bed playing with the PlayStation when his greatuncle straddled him and gave him a massage. He allegedly massaged down the boy’s back and again touched him inappropriately.
“( The boy) then rolled over and tried to get the defendant off him, he says that the defendant grabbed his arms and held them around the wrist, up behind his head, in what ( the boy) describes as ‘ like mucking around’ ... and the defendant says ‘ I’m too strong for you’,” Ms Crane said.
“It’s around this point that ( the boy) says his brother walked into the room. He says that the defendant then got off him and left.”
Ms Crane said the boy told his sister the great- uncle had touched him.
She said that night, the mother was told of the complaint after the family went out to dinner.
The trial is expected to continue today.
