In­quiry into fall­ing blocks

AN in­ves­ti­ga­tion will be car­ried out into why con­crete blocks fell from a South Townsville build­ing on Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Fire­fight­ers at­tended the scene on Tom­lins St af­ter a call from the pub­lic say­ing that con­crete blocks had fallen from the sec­ond floor of the build­ing.

Townsville City Coun­cil di­rec­tor of plan­ning and com­mu­nity en­gage­ment Eber Butron said the coun­cil re­sponded to a call from fire­fight­ers to a re­port of blocks be­ing dis­lodged from the River Quays build­ing.

“Coun­cil’s reg­u­la­tory sec­tion will be car­ry­ing out fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion with the build­ing owner to safe­guard pub­lic safety,” he said.
