Toil pays off for Burdekin
BURDEKIN have their sights set squarely on a top- two finish in the Townsville City Netball premier league this season after proving too strong for Phoenix 59- 23 on Monday night.
Burdekin have been in sensational form over the past month – stringing together a four- match winning streak – and coach Cara Trindle felt they were reaping the rewards of their hard work at training.
“We’re working hard on the practice court and we’re bringing that into our games, especially with some of the margins,” Trindle said.
“We go into these games against the top teams with the mindset that they’re going to be extremely tough and our goal is to start well and that’s what we’ve been doing.
“Our whole team really stood up defensively ( against Phoenix), but again our sister combo of Jackelyn Coghill and Shelby Norris were excellent in the defensive circle.”
Third- placed Burdekin are keeping the pressure on the ladder leaders Neptunes and Saints with just four rounds left to play and Trindle was confident they were right in the hunt for the minor premiership.
“That’s our plan. We’ve got four games left and they’re all going to be tough so we’re just going to take it week- by- week and hopefully keep excelling like we have,” she said.
In other games, Neptunes had a 34- 31 win over MarianVixens while Saints proved too strong for Runaways 66- 54.
