BEHIND THE CAMERAS
camera, action” … we’ve all heard the term before. It’s as old as show business itself. But as this TV- loving couch potato recently learned it’s not 100 per cent accurate. Something along the lines of “research, interviews, hair, makeup, scripts, editing, lights, camera, action” would be more on point.
After years of watching TV on a screen, last week I was lucky enough to be invited to Foxtel’s Townsville Tour. The event transformed our civic theatre into a makeshift TV studio for some of Foxtel’s top- rating TV shows. We’re talking Sky News’s Paul Murray Live and Fox League programs League Life and Queenslanders Only. Shows that are a big deal. Filmed right here in Townsville. Seeing behind the scenes like this was pretty cool stuff.
The amount of work that goes into something we all so casually watch in our lounge rooms is staggering.
But the most amazing thing about being part of being in a live studio audience was watching the actual program presenters themselves. Without the help of an autocue and with hundreds of eyes watching ( thousands if you count the viewers at home) these people had the ability to perform. To actually look down the barrel of a television camera, talk and somehow make sense. What an extraordinary skill that is. I take my hat off to them.
Maybe next time Karl Stefanovic says something a little off colour on The Today Show we should spare a thought for the human who’s been up since 3am spending his morning in the spotlight. Love ya Karlos!
