Selectors won’t rush Geitz’ return

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - REBECCA WILLIAMS

NATIONAL selectors will not rush former Australian captain Laura Geitz’s netball comeback, opting not to include her as a training partner for next week’s Diamonds’ camp in Canberra.

Geitz will make her return to netball next year with the Queensland Firebirds after missing the inaugural 2017 Super Netball season following the birth of her first child in February. While she has already named her 2017- 2018 squad, Diamonds’ coach Lisa Alexander has left the door open for Geitz to push for Commonwealth Games selection — even though the Firebirds’ season does not start until after the national team’s gold medal bid in April.

“We decided it was not a good idea to rush her into this first camp so she won’t be going, but she will work on a program that has got some input from the Diamonds’ staff,’’ Alexander said.
