ROUGH JUSTICE

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

JUSTICE of the Peace Maree Edmunds responded to the story in this column last week about Rotary volunteer Paul Ryan receiving a parking ticket on Castle Hill while up there doing voluntary work with Rotary. Maree volunteers as a JP at the Townsville Courthouse every Monday morning. Council provides the JPs with parking vouchers which is as it should be. After finishing her shift she went to the car and recovered the permit and returned it to council. She came back to her car only to find in that short period of time she had been issued with a parking ticket. She took it to council and explained the situation. They gave her a form to fill out, but told her she would have to pay the fine. On another occasion, when the JPs still had to put money in the meter, she was booked when she ran out of time. “I could see the car from the office, but it went over time as I was dealing with a customer and their paperwork.” Ms Edmunds drives in from Alice River to volunteer as a JP.
