Daniher, Dons trounce Saints
A RUN- OUT win over an out- ofsorts St Kilda has ensured Essendon’s finals hopes remain alive and kicking.
The Bombers cruised to a comfortable 17.16.118- 7.15.57 win over the sorry Saints, with Joe Daniher leading the way at Etihad Stadium with a four- goal night. Essendon kept St Kilda goalless in the opening term but their quarter- time lead of 15 points should have been considerably more.
The Saints broke their goal drought in the fourth minute of the second term when Jack Lonie snagged one from 45m but it failed to prove the kickstart coach Alan Richardson wanted.
While Josh Bruce kicked another 10 minutes later, the Bombers controlled the rest of the quarter. St Kilda had a chance early to score the first goal of the second half when Tom Hickey earned a free kick right in front but he sprayed the ball woefully, which summed up the Saints’ night.
Essendon made them pay, with seven goals for the term as Daniher added a fourth thanks once more to a super grab, while Tom Bellchambers scored two for the term.
The Bombers ran way with the game with four goals in the final term as they improved to an 8- 8 win/ loss mark for the season.
