Maroons trio keen to shine

COWBOYS skipper Gavin Cooper says he has no doubt the club’s three Origin players will be at their best for their clash with the Rabbitohs, despite the gruelling contest on Wednesday night.

Cooper, Michael Morgan and Coen Hess are all determined to back up for tomorrow’s showdown in Cairns, just four days after helping Queensland claim the Origin series.

Cooper said he was confident that not only would the trio back up well, but that Morgan and Hess would carry their Origin form into the match.

“It’s hard to turn up and train two days ( after Origin), that’s a bit tough,’’ Cooper said. “But when it comes time for game day everyone wakes up keen to play. That’s why we do it.

“Morgo was great last game. We’re going to need him to be that level and some for the rest of the year with the boys we do have out.

“Hessy, he’ll grow in confidence again. He played a few more minutes ( in Origin III) and really showed that he fits in that arena. We’ll hopefully get that out of Hessy this weekend as well.”

Coach Paul Green was also confident in what his Origin trio could produce, particularly after their series victory.

“It’s a thing young guys have got to learn,” Green said.

“We’ve got some good examples of Thumper ( Matt Scott) and JT ( Thurston) over the years. They take pride in coming back and playing well for their club.”
