IF YOU’VE ever tried to do the groceries on an empty stomach, chances are you’ve spent double what you intended or eaten a few grapes in the fruit aisle.
While we can’t do much to deter your mid- shop eating habits, we can help you stick to your budget — even when the hunger growls strike.
Here are our top tips to avoiding overspending while doing the groceries: Set yourself a timer: Don’t expect to fill an entire trolley in less than a minute, but give yourself a timelimit to get everything done, and make sure you hit it. This doesn’t mean strolling through the aisles tipping anything and everything into your basket. Stick to your list and don’t stop to smell the freshly baked cakes or study every flavour of marinated cashews. Be brand disloyal: Just because you know a certain brand has the best yoghurt, doesn’t mean you have to buy it every time. Check what’s on special. You may just find your new favourite brand. Check your stocks before you shop: Stop being wasteful. Check the pantry and the fridge before you head to the shops and don’t buy things routinely unless you actually need them. If you didn’t use those three tins of tomatoes last week, they’re probably still in the pantry and you don’t need more. Win a grocery voucher, on us! Even if you overspend, at least you won’t feel guilty about spending money you got for free! Head to townsvillebulletin. com. au/ bingo and enter your details to be in the running to win.
We’re also giving away 20 $ 50 grocery vouchers for those who win this week’s bingo game. If you haven’t been playing with us for the past four weeks, here’s how to play: using the bingo card from the Saturday, June 17, and June 24 editions find the week’s corresponding numbers in the paper each day and cross them off.
Today is the last day to enter the competition, so ensure you use the week four section on the bingo card. If you get bingo using any of the numbers inside the paper daily this week, you’ve won! Come into the office to collect your prize.
Head to townsvillebulletin. com. au/ bingo to enter and for more information.
