Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - with John Andersen john. andersen@ news. com. au

He calls himself the Denture Adventurer and he travels … with his mobile workshop making ‘ falsies’ for clients whose ‘ chompers’ have long since bitten the dust.

OKAY, so we are all still coming down from the adrenalin-induced high that was Queensland’s Origin win. This extreme level of euphoria can only mean that we really didn’t think we could pull this win off without Thurston, Scott, Inglis and Boyd. And then there was Billy Slater with his ankle we knew wasn’t going to last more than 10 minutes into the first half. But, we didn’t just win. We rubbed their noses in it. And as per usual there’s been some great jokes doing the rounds about NSW and coach Laurie Daley. I’m not picking on Daley because in my book he’s always been a good bloke. Anyway, I’m wandering off the reservation here. Getting back to the jokes, the best one I saw was the Betoota Advocate’s headline: “Qld Maroons Criticised For Their Use of Performance Enhancing Bernard Fanning Music.” This was a take on the pre- game performance of the Powderfinger song Wish You Well by the band’s frontman, Bernard Fanning ( a Queenslander and cousin of well- known Townsville rockers, Brian and Terry Fanning). I’m delighted to say some people still think the Betoota Advocate is a legitimate news site as opposed to being a satirical purveyor of usually very funny fake news. Upon reading the Betoota report Trent Hughes, believing it was a dinkum yarn, went online and wrote: “Oh My god surely this is a ( expletive) joke. NSW fans will complain about literally anything. Pathetic bunch of germs”. Angry New South Welshman Mat Lenaghan fired up and took to poor, misguided and innocent Trent like a pit bull to a chihuahua, telling him: “The whole ( Betoota Advocate) page is a joke you ( expletive) loser”. The whole exchange degenerated into a running, expletive- laden, gunbattle between Trent ( who went down fighting) and Mat and numerous others. It was a vicious exchange, but that’s life out on the front lines of FB. Anyway, that’s it for another splendid Origin year, but how many people out there think was the best series ever? And, yes, you can bet Bernard Fanning will be back at Suncorp Stadium in 2018.

FOND FAREWELL: Bernard Fanning performs at Suncorp Stadium before the deciding State of Origin clash on Wednesday as part of a tribute to Johnathan Thurston.
