Police investigate death of woman at bucks party
H O MI C I D E i n v e s t i g a t o r s were last night trying to identify a mystery woman found dead in a Melbourne bucks night tragedy.
Four men from the ACT and NSW remained in custody as detectives worked to unravel circumstances behind the discovery of the woman’s body in the shower of a CBD serviced apartment.
She was dressed a longsleeved black top, blue denim shorts and white runners.
One of the bucks party guests said he thought what had happened was a “stitchup”. “I thought it was one big stitch up ... but turns out it wasn’t,” he said.
It is believed paramedics attended The Oaks on Market apartments following a 000 call made by a hotel guest after members of the bucks party found her collapsed in the shower. Police are waiting for an autopsy on the woman, aged in her late 20s or early 30s.
Investigators spent much of the day in a 10th floor apartment of the complex.
It is believed to have been one of three booked by the bucks groups.
Four of the group were still with investigators last night as they gave their versions of what had happened. The others spoke to police but were not taken into custody.
Forensic examiners were seen carrying bags of evidence from the scene during the day.
The husband- to- be was seen making mobile phone calls in The Oaks foyer during yesterday. It is believed his brother was one of the four taken into custody by police.
Police said they couldn’t say if the woman was known to the men, or whether she had consumed drugs or alcohol. They are working with the hotel to find security camera footage.
