Roar defend decision to sign up Maccarone
BRISBANE Roar have rubbished concerns about the age of new signing Massimo Maccarone, insisting the 37- year- old former Italian international will deliver on the A- League stage.
The Roar have signed the exSampdoria, Palermo Empoli and Middlesbrough striker on a year- long marquee deal, with Maccarone understood to be earning $ 450,000 to $ 500,000 for the season.
Maccarone arrives in Brisbane on Saturday, with his ex- Empoli teammate and Socceroos stalwart Mark Bresciano flying to Queensland on Sunday to help him settle.
Maccarone’s signing was yesterday hailed by those who value his pedigree and goalscoring record in Italy and England for several years, but derided by others whose only concern seemed to be the player’s age.
