JAM serves up winner
THE quality of Townsville cuisine has overtaken that of Cairns and now we have proof, a local restaurateur says.
Renowned Palmer St establishment JAM Restaurant is now officially the best contemporary Australian restaurant in Queensland after winning the soughtafter informal category. Owner Matt Merrin ( right) said it was great to see Townsville beat a field of restaurants across Queensland.
He said Townsville had overtaken Cairns in terms of the quality of its food establishments.
“We focus on looking after our locals and aren’t chasing the tourist dollar,” he said.
“Cairns and Port Douglas have been known for food but now Townsville is rivalling them and edging above them. We have great operators who are very passionate about great food and good service.”
