Waterwise residents avoid fines

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

TOWNSVILLE City Council has issued just nine fines to residents for breaking water restrictions since January 1.

The city’s daily water usage has averaged about 89ML each day – well under the 100ML target – in the same period.

Water and Waste Committee chair Cr Paul Jacobs said the city had “really come on board” with the council’s water- wise message.

Cr Jacobs said the council was reviewing a previous de- sign for the duplication of a supply link from the Burdekin Falls Dam, in line with the recommendations of the Townsville Water Task Force.

“That work has been prioritised and we should be in a position to announce timeframes and the procurement process for construction of the pipeline over the next couple of months,” he said.

“This will include looking to engage as many local suppliers as possible.”
