Binge eating can cause C- birth

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

EATING for two while bingeing on Netflix is likely to increase a pregnant woman’s chances of C- section surgery.

Women should be informed routinely at antenatal classes that “letting yourself go” can have serious health risks, a new study published in The British Medical Journal has revealed.

The benefits of a healthy diet and exercise during pregnancy were found to be consistent, regardless of a woman’s age, ethnicity, body mass index and underlying medical conditions.

While healthy interventions reduced the odds of caesareans and gestational diabetes, they had no effect on offspring outcomes, such as stillbirth.

Queensland Health warned while pregnant women should not eat for two, they needed to eat twice as well. “With only a 15 to 25 per cent increase in requirements for ( kilojoules), the quality ... of dietary intake becomes important,” the Health Department advises.
