Three youngsters carry city rugby banner

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - TRENT SLATTER

THREE young Townsville rugby union players are proving they’re just as talented as their city- based rivals after the annual Queensland City versus Country clash at Ballymore.

Tokoa Roberts ( under- 13), Kmani Levi ( under- 14), and Tareq Parter ( under- 16) were all named for the Queensland Country teams as they took on Queensland City.

The trio were the only players from the region to earn state selection following their efforts with the Townsville Brolgas at last month’s Junior State Championships in Brisbane. Players from Southeast Queensland traditionally make up the Queensland teams so it’s a huge achieve- ment for the committed young Townsville athletes to pull on the jerseys.

City took the bragging rights with hard- fought wins for the under- 13 and under- 14 games, but Tareq and the under- 16s stood tall for the regional boys as Country defeated City 13- 3.

Queensland Country selection is the highest honour that Tokoa and Kmani can achieve in their respective age groups, but Tareq is still pushing for a spot on the Queensland team for the Australian Under- 16 Championships later this year.
