Sharks give Bunnies boot

Townsville Bulletin - - RUGBY LEAGUE -

JAMES Maloney came to Cronulla’s rescue last night after a South Sydney scare.

The premiers were on the back foot for most of the second half at Southern Cross Group Stadium as Souths put it all on the line to keep their season alive.

A refreshed Maloney proved the difference in the end when his two grubbers inside the final 10minutes set up tries for Gerard Beale and Ricky Leutele.

Maloney’s first grubber angled back into the right upright, and allowed the ball to stay alive and end up in the chest of Beale.

Then his final kick was perfectly weighted and pounced on by Leutele inside the final two minutes to lock up the 26- 12 win. The premiers were able to move into fourth place temporarily with Manly and North Queensland still to play.

They got the cash without Jack Bird who was a late scratching with a sternum injury.
