Free hos­pi­tal park­ing boost

THE State Gov­ern­ment is promis­ing to re­duce the fi­nan­cial bur­den on pa­tients and fam­i­lies by nearly dou­bling the amount of con­ces­sional park­ing avail­able at hos­pi­tals.

Health Min­is­ter Cameron Dick or­dered 12 pub­lic hos­pi­tals us­ing paid park­ing, in­clud­ing Townsville, to of­fer 100,000 free and dis­count spa­ces a year over four years. The gov­ern­ment will spend up to $ 7.5 mil­lion to com­pen­sate the hos­pi­tals.

Con­ces­sional park­ing will be avail­able for pa­tients and car­ers ex­pe­ri­enc­ing fi­nan­cial hard­ship, those who need to at­tend hos­pi­tal for an ex­tended pe­riod of time or fre­quently, and those with spe­cial needs who re­quire as­sis­tance.
