Hunt for station slingshot shooter
THE front of Cairns’s main police station became a crime scene after a slingshot was used to fire a marble at the entrance and shattered the glass on Saturday night.
Police inside reportedly heard a loud “crack” just before 7pm at the Sheridan St station and saw the front sliding door smashed.
Fears had initially been held that a firearm was involved but a police spokesman said a small glass ball, similar to a marble, was found at the scene and was likely from a slingshot.
No one was injured.
Police are examining security footage at the station and other nearby cameras.
The spokesman said no suspicious vehicles or suspects had yet been identified.
Police have called for anyone with information to phone Policelink or Crimestoppers.
