Waters rejects state MP run

Townsville Bulletin - - NATION -

FORMER Greens Senator Larissa Waters has ruled out running against Deputy Premier Jackie Trad in the next election.

Ms Waters was forced to resign last week when it emerged she was a dual Australian- Canadian citizen, in contravention of constitutional rules for federal MPs.

It led to speculation she may vie for the Queensland Parliament – which allows dual citizens – in the seat of South Brisbane, where a challenge is expected from the Greens.

But Ms Waters has ruled that out, writing on Twitter that she would not be parachuted in.

She said candidate Amy MacMahon would run “and win”.

Ms Trad was out in the electorate yesterday with grassroots campaigners.

She doorknocked with Labor volunteers in the Dutton Park area following a barbecue at Harmony Park.
