Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

TOWNSVILLE City Council will look to euthanase a dog which mauled a woman in Wulguru yesterday, inflicting a serious injury to her calf.

The 36- year- old woman was walking in Georgina St about noon when the neomastiff cross escaped from its enclosure at a neighbouring property.

It is understood one of the woman’s legs was mauled which resulted in her losing part of her calf.

Emergency services personnel and council officers went to the scene and the woman was taken to the Townsville Hospital.

Community Health and Environment Committee chair Ann- Maree Greaney said the council was investigating the attack with the intention of prosecuting the dog’s owner and destroying the dog.

“This attack was unprovoked and caused serious harm and distress to the victim, and owners need to be held responsible for the actions of their pets,” Cr Greaney said.

“The dog was impounded immediately after the attack to safeguard the community and our intention is to have it put down.”

The woman was in a stable condition in the Townsville Hospital late yesterday.
