North needs better than this

Townsville Bulletin - - OPINION -

CORALEE O’Rourke told the people of Townsville that she has regular meetings with the Premier, but it turns out that she has not had one formal meeting with her boss in the first half of this year.

While I am sure everyone understands that there will always be unofficial meetings between pollies, it is almost impossible to believe that she has not needed to have one official meeting with the Premier regarding North Queensland based issues.

Meetings at functions, in the corridors of the parliament or on the phone simply don’t count in achieving momentum for the central issues for the North like water security and power prices. These big picture issues can only be properly considered at formal meetings where the Premier’s advisers and senior departmental staff all attend.

It’s bad enough that Coralee misled us claiming she had one- on- one meetings with the Premier. Then to justify her job she claimed to have secured funding for the new stadium. Extraordinary! She was not even in Parliament when the commitment to the stadium was given.

As the Minister assisting the Premier on North Queensland and a Cabinet minister what we need is someone who not only has the Premier’s ear but someone who is going to aggressively push for what we need here in Townsville.

This is clearly not happening if she has had nothing to say to her boss for six months. KIMBERLY RENEE,

Toolakea.
