DEALER TRUSTS IN CITY’S FUTURE
THE owner of SunCity Yamaha has faith Townsville is on the brink of economic recovery after investing more than $ 1 million to open a second dealership.
Owner Brett Storey has just opened the doors to a new dedicated Yamaha dealership next to his existing Harley Davidson store on Woolcock St in Mount Louisa. Mr Storey bought land next to his existing business before the construction of his new building which took about three months.
He said he was proud to be a local business owner investing in Townsville.
“The plan was always there to expand the business into two businesses but given Townsville’s economy I’ve been hesitant to give it the green light,” Mr Storey said.
“It’s still a very soft market in Townsville but I didn’t want to wait until it’s booming and not have a premises so I’m doing it in anticipation of Townsville booming.
“We now have about 16 people employed after taking on another four or five people when the new business opened.”
The cost of buying the land plus constructing the new building, which includes about 600sq m of under- roof space, totalled more than $ 1 million.
The existing business will now cater exclusively for Harley Davidson products while the new building will house a Yamaha dealership.
The expansion means SunCity has been able to increase their Yamaha stock TONYT RAGGATT 4722 4439 CHRISTIECHR ANDERSON 4722 4741 which ranges from dirt bikes to agricultural vehicles.
Mr Storey said the site of his business was carefully chosen to cater to the growing northern suburbs of Townsville while being highly visible on Woolcock St.
“I think we are a real destination store and we have to make people want to come here because we don’t rely on foot traffic,” he said.
“We offer a really professional environment with great staff and great service.
“We are one store that services the northern side of Townsville whereas there are four or five dealerships competing for customers on the south side of Townsville.
“We also didn’t want to be land locked so we could expand and there is still plenty of room out here.”
