Touch star widens training horizons

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

A TOWNSVILLE sports star who brought the popular functional training system F45 to the city is opening her second gym at Kirwan.

Kelly Kennedy has represented Queensland and Australia in touch football and is captain of last year’s Women’s 27 gold- medal winning world cup side.

She bought rights to run an F45 Training outlet at Hermit Park in 2015 and has now opened at the Mountview Plaza in Bamford Lane.

She said her Hermit Park business was going well so she was taking the opportunity to also open F45 Training Thuringowa.

The training system, which began in Australia and includes among its clients stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, is taking the world by storm.

Ms Kennedy said it was the nature and variety of the 45 minutes of functional and high intensity training and motivation techniques, in- cluding “Hollywood” nights with live DJs, which was so appealing.

“It’s a great concept. I do one of these sessions every day,” she said.

Knight Frank Townsville retail leasing executive Louise Slater said the Mountview Plaza had undergone a major transformation with new colour scheme, garden beds and improvements.

“I am seeing a revitalisation in neighbourhood centres,” Ms Slater said.

“This is coming from affordable rent rates, in competition with major centres, their convenience and people preferring to support smaller operators.

“Also, I find landlords of these type of centres are flexible and have a better understanding of the local market.”

Ms Slater said there were good opportunities in the Townsville retail market.

“Kelly’s confidence to open a second gym is proof of that,” she said.
