Philippoussis dad on child sex counts

Townsville Bulletin - - NATION -

THE father of former Aussie tennis ace Mark Philippoussis has been arrested on child sex abuse charges in the US.

Nikolaos Philippoussis, 68, allegedly molested two minors who took lessons from him, authorities in San Diego said.

Few other details have been provided but San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s Lieutenant Greg Rylaarsdam said the charges include lewd and lascivious acts with children.

“He didn’t know we were coming,” Lt Rylaarsdam said.

A search warrant was executed on the home where Philippoussis lives in the suburb of Mira Mesa but authorities declined to say if computers or other property were seized.

The alleged victims were aged under 14, but Lt Rylaarsdam would not detail how young they were or if they were boys or girls.

Philippoussis worked as a personal tennis coach in neighbourhoods north of San Diego and detectives haven’t ruled out the possibility of more alleged victims coming forward.

Philippoussis was last night being held in San Diego Central Jail on $ 3.1 million bail.
