Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - MICHAEL THOMPSON

TOWNSVILLE rugby league nursery Ignatius Park College will kick off its latest GIO Schoolboys Cup campaign this afternoon.

Ignatius Park hosts St Patrick’s College, Mackay, from 3.30pm with a place in the Queensland semi- final on the line. Fellow Townsville league powerhouse Kirwan State High was shocked yesterday when it lost its match against The Cathedral College, Rockhampton 28- 22 at Jack Masnki Oval.

Today Iggy Park game also doubles as the semi- final of the Aaron Payne Cup.

“It’s a very big game and a massive occasion,” Iggy Park coach Christian Quabba said.

“It’s do or die from now on and the school is certainly excited about it.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game and St Pat’s recently beat us ( 22- 16), so we know how good of a team they are.

“But we’re primed for it and I think it will be a great game.”

Ignatius Park has reached the national semi- final of the GIO Schoolboys Cup, and Kirwan made history in 2015 by becoming the first North Queensland school to win the national title.
