‘ They don’t belong here’
CHAIRMAN of Tropical Tablelands Tourism and the LNP candidate for Barron River Michael Trout wants the estuarine crocodiles gone … yesterday.
He says the crocodiles do not belong on the Tableland and should be shot.
“We don’t want a ‘ go softly’ approach on the crocodiles. Shoot them. They don’t belong here. People come here to go water skiing on Tinaroo, swimming in the lakes. What’s going to happen?” he said.
“It’s a risk to workers, locals and tourists camping at Tinaroo and the Walsh River. It’s just ludicrous. If this was Cape York Peninsula or the Gulf Country you’d know that there are crocodiles in the water and you’d take precautions. But, this is the Tableland. People are not used to this.”
Mr Trout said the threat to tourism was “massive” and that if someone was attacked by a crocodile the consequences would be “immense”. “Officers ( from EHP) should find them and shoot them,” he said.
