Hanson wants ABC focus on regions
ONE Nation Senator Pauline Hanson has lashed out at ABC TV for not providing enough regional or rural coverage, while calling for the public broadcaster to have access to fewer digital channels.
Her comments echo those of media executives, including Michael Miller of News Corp ( publisher of the Townsville Bulletin) and Fairfax’s Greg Hywood, about the public broadcaster’s evolution into a more aggressive commercial competitor, rather than focusing on regional areas. A spokesman for Senator Hanson said she was concerned ABC television was not providing enough regional content.
Senator Hanson’s spokesman said One Nation wanted ABC television to spend more of its budget on regional programming and content to reflect its large rural audience.
He said the party was calling for digital channels made available for the public broadcasters to be reduced to three for the ABC and one for SBS.
