ERICA’S TOP AWARD AT EPHEMERA
A GOLD Coast- based artist has taken out the top award for this year’s Strand Ephemera.
The North’s sculpture festival was officially launched at the Rockpool last Friday night.
The winner of the highly contested $ 10,000 Award for Artistic Excellence was revealed as Erica Gray for her work, Visceral Bodies.
It is the second time Ms Gray has won the award, after co- creating a Take a closer look at the sculptures featured during Strand Ephemera winning piece in 2011. “I’m very excited, the award is really wonderful,” Ms Gray said.
“I always strive to enter the event and I was really thrilled to even be named a finalist this year.”
Ms Gray describes her work, which has been placed on and around a boulder near the Strand Rockpool as her interpretation of the coral reef.
“It’s quite a bright, colourful and fun piece,” she said. “It incorporates a lot of lighting, soft sculptures and textiles is a combination of stitch and 3D print work.”
Local artist Harriet GeaterJohnson’s artwork Transient Cabinet was named runner- up.
