No going back to Level 3

Townsville Bulletin - - OPINION -

ONE nation and our local candidates are listening to all parties on the solution to secure Townsville’s water supply and for that matter all of Queensland. As announced, we would axe the $ 5.4 billion Cross River Rail and spend that money across the state, mainly on securing water and energy supply.

In relation to Townsville’s water supply at this stage we will be guided by the Brad Webb- led taskforce that is supported by all three levels of government.

The difference between One Nation and the old political parties is we will look long term in relation to critical infrastructure like water and energy knowing where the money is coming from before we pledged our support.

Local One Nation Members of Parliament would meet with Townsville City Council to see their water security plan before we hand over any money to ensure the public’s expectations are met.

We have now pledged $ 360 million for construction of infrastructure to supply water, a state responsibility, and its transporting and possible treatment which is normally the responsibility of local government. Once a guarantee by the council to meet supply levels is met as Brad Webb himself said had to be addressed, the state would make the funding available and this would not mean level 3. We cannot return to a situation where residents, businesses and industry are held to ransom by future councils that do not plan and act.

Our position and pledge to fund the raising of Burdekin stage 2 the full 14 metres proves again our policies are long term to en- sure absolute security. State One Nation Leader Steve Dickson said at the weekend’s announcement the Federal Government needed to match our pledges dollar for dollar if they are to prove their support for the development and growth of regional North Queensland. With the axing of the $ 5.4 billion Brisbane project, our money is where our mouth is.

Townsville has been let down by all levels of government in the past on water security but I congratulate all three levels now forming a taskforce to deal with it.

With Brad Webb leading that team I am sure it will be looking down the road and not just at the dashboard. We must have the pledges for funding and pledges for supply to match. SAM COX, One Nation Candidate Burdekin.

LONG TERM: One Nation pledges to raise the Burdekin Falls Dam the full 14m.
