Teen takes Malaysia motorbike race
TEENAGE motorbike talent Billy van Eerde’s stock is soaring in the racing scene after he claimed an impressive win in Malaysia.
The talented 15- year- old ( right) is originally from Townsville but made the move to New South Wales to reside in Singleton in 2014 to try and further his motorcycle racing career.
That decision seems to be paying off as he parlayed his success on dirt track racing in to a place in the recent RC390 cup in Sepang, Malaysia where he was given a wildcard entry to ride as a factory KTM rider.
Van Eerde went into the competition as the underdog but he was quickly dubbed ‘ The Flying Aussie’ when he qualified sixth for race one.
He went on to take out first place .
Wet and unfamiliar conditions saw him crash out in the second race but it was still a wildly successful overseas trip for van Eerde, who is also racing in the Australian Superbike Championship ( ASBK) where he is fourth in the championship points.
This talented young rider has meetings coming up in Warwick and Eastern Creek for the ASBK series and will also be riding in the support categories at the Moto GP Australian Round in Phillip Island.
