Jets fired up for rumble in PNG

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - RIKKI- LEE ARNOLD

IPSWICH co- coach Ben Walker has declared that no other team in the Intrust Super Cup is playing better than the Jets in the lead up to this year’s finals.

The seventh- placed Jets will today take on the competitionleading Hunters in Port Moresby, in what is expected to be the game of the round.

If Ipswich manage to claim the two points over PNG — who have not won since Round 18 — they could move on to equal points with finals contenders, Townsville.

And Walker, who coaches the side with his brother Shane, believes they are in the best position possible to cause that upset in Port Moresby today.

“There isn’t a team playing better than us right now,” he said.

“We need to win our next three games. Fortunately we’re coming into this one with a huge amount of confidence.

“We’re playing better than we have all year but we’re still not guaranteed a spot in the finals yet. When we do ( make it), we’ll be in great shape.”

Elsewhere today, Northern Pride will host Souths Logan, Mackay will meet Sunshine Coast and the CQ Capras will take on Townsville.
