Power price concerns aired

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS -

RESIDENTS and business owners worried about rising power prices in Townsville have aired their concerns at a public forum organised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The corporate watchdog held its retail electricity pricing inquiry forum at Rydges Southbank last night, with submissions ranging from the viability of solar power to confusion around offers from energy companies.

Townsville Chamber of Commerce board member Michael Kopittke said he was told the number of attendees and submissions were greater than a similar forum in Brisbane.

“The three major items that came out were the lack of competition in regional Queensland, the large increase in service charges and the effect of that on consumers,” he said.
