Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT - LEE PEARCE

GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville showgrounds tonight with an 11- race program.

Our feature event is five heats of the fourth/ fifth grade over 380m, as well as three 498m races.

These will be interesting to watch as the Cup Carnival starts in a couple of weeks with trainers getting their dogs ready for the Cup Preludes over the 498m on August 22.

Race 5 is the Frost and Spark Electrical fifth grade over 498m, an open race with quite a few chances.

The favourite for this should be Riff ( 7) for Harold Hovi who missed the start last week, but still managed to run home well for third and can also begin well on his night.

Asa El Chappo ( 4) for Michael Hickmott is running back into form after winning a heat of the Cairns Cup over 544m, then running second in the final behind Brisbane greyhound Flapping Gums.

He has a good finish and has each- way claims. Not A Word ( 8) for John Forster is ultra consistent and ran a good second last week behind Pass The Ammo.

Fire To Rain ( 5) for Christopher Riordan is a first starter over the distance so watch the market.

Race 6 is the Burdekin Vet Services fifth grade over 498m. This is an open race with most of the starters on par with each other. Arts ( 8) for Hovi is having his first look at the distance so watch the market.

Roll So Deep ( 5) for Christopher Riordan is also having his first look at the distance.

No Not Me ( 1) for Rhonda Essery has had two runs over this distance and she has drawn the rails so is worth another chance.

Brother Rob ( 2) for Glen Olsen is slow out of the starting boxes but has a good finish and is a place chance.

Race 7 is the Goldenview Greyhound Complex third/ fourth grade over 498m.

This race will be one to watch with most of these dogs back to their favourite distance. Favourite for this race would have to be Chips Ahoy ( 3) for Rhonda Essery which has a good record over this distance.
