In- form Barty makes main draw in Toronto

QUEENS­LAN­DER Ash Barty has moved strongly on to the North Amer­i­can hard­court swing by win­ning through qual­i­fy­ing for the WTA Toronto main draw.

Barty, ranked No. 57, will meet France’s 55th- ranked Oceane Dodin in the first round in Toronto be­cause of her 1- 6, 6- 2, 6- 2 win over Amer­i­can Madi­son Bren­gle in the last round of qual­i­fy­ing. Barty and top- ranked Australian Daria Gavrilova are the Australian en­trants in Toronto.

Sam Sto­sur, 18 places be­low Gavrilova at No. 43, hopes to make her re­turn from a hand in­jury in Cincin­nati next week.

In the US, Bris­bane’s John Mill­man lost his Lex­ing­ton Chal­lenger fi­nal 4- 6, 7- 6 ( 7- 3), 6- 3 to Amer­i­can Michael Mmoh and Syd­ney’s Alex de Min­aur had no more luck in his Chal­lenge fi­nal in Spain, with a 6- 3, 5- 4 loss to Jaume Mu­nar.

Bris­bane’s Lizette Cabr­era lost her Toronto qual­i­fier 6- 4, 6- 2 to Irina- Camelia Begu.
