‘ Lift game’ on embassies
THE audit office has urged the Foreign Affairs Department to lift its game on security arrangements for overseas missions. The department spent $ 114.5 million in 2015- 16 on security for 104 diplomatic posts. An Australian National Audit Office report released yesterday made seven recommendations including better training and improving the quality of security risk assessments and reporting of breaches. The report noted one risk in which guards and an Xray machine were listed as security measures but the guards did not know how to operate the machine.
